I have strong views on work culture in India, particularly regarding treatment of employees, the startup ecosystem, and brain drain. My experience at Legion, a remote-first company, serves as my primary counterpoint.

Brain Drain

In September 2025, I posted a long-form note (10 likes): “The problem isnt brain drain. It’s India’s work culture. People dont go to the US because they like it or for fun. The real reason is better opportunities.” I argued that if India offered better work-life balance, better pay, and better treatment of employees, fewer would leave. This connects to the broader travel and brain drain discussion.

I stated: “Indian companies are the worst at this. I’d rather be jobless and try something else than work for an Indian company.”

Legion as Counterexample

I credit legion for showing what good remote work culture looks like. The company allows flexible hours, pays for AI tool subscriptions, and actively tells employees to take breaks after heavy work periods. “Everyone works from home for @legiondotcc and it’s so much better. Coz the main goal is to get the work done instead of doing 9-5.”

Startup Ecosystem

I have criticized the Indian startup ecosystem and government policy. In November 2025: “Well there are no Indian startups coz of the shitty eco system.” I tagged government minister Piyush Goyal directly.

My frustration extends to the tax system. Filing taxes with crypto income was a particular pain point. I spent time looking for CAs who could handle crypto taxes and GST registration.

Education System

My views on Indian education align with my work culture criticism. I see the college system as disconnected from real-world skills, values memorization over creativity, and produces placement seasons that are “real bad both on campus and off campus.” See college for details.
